The dreaded school run

The kids are back at school….. which means it’s time for the bloody school run!!!

The christmas holidays have come to an end!!! Well they actually came to an end a few weeks ago… its just taking me what feels like forever to find 5 minutes to actually write this blog or do any work at all!!!

So with the holidays coming to an end, the kids go back to school and peace can resume in the house. Which is fab don’t get me wrong, its just that when holidays come to an end it means the dreaded school run starts again. The joys!!!!

The dreaded school run brings….. 6 people fighting over one bathroom, 4 kids that need feeding along with 4 animals otherwise they will not leave your feet. Lunch boxes, school bags, PE kits, coats, kids not wanting to go to school…. The list goes on!!!

The school run has not always been a stressful and a daily challenge……I remember what feels like many moons ago the school run actually used to be enjoyable….ok that maybe a slight exaggeration, I would leave the house organised though and tidy with not a dirty pot in sight unlike today. This was probably because the kids did as they was told…most of the time! we was always ready and organised for the school day and left in plenty of time. When the kids was younger organisation was a must especially when your doing things like the school run on your own as daddy is at work.… I used to get their clothes, sort their lunch, do their hair, sort school bags etc etc…. trying to get a teenager or even the 9 year old to do these things in a decent time is friggin impossible!!!!

Organisation it would seem is something that my boys and most of the time my daughter are not that big in… oh unless its football and that’s a push!!!! Organisation and my kids just don’t go together… They are all fully aware of the time we are meant to leave for school and yet everyday I’m calling their names and giving them reminders of the time, as they go around the house from room to room getting ready and packing their school bags. Sometimes even looking for their PE kit that was washed the day before… bloody school… fancy doing a school time table with PE two days in a row, its not like the PE kit is even cheap enough for me to get spare.

I gave up a long time ago with telling my little darlings to sort their bags the night before, it’s a waste of my time and effort. They do however do their sandwiches the night before which is something, even the 9 yr old gives it ago. I am the one that does their lunch boxes in the morning though, well attempts to as more often then not at least one out of three of them will swop items of their lunch…….sometimes even hiding their sandwich and making a new one as they don’t like the filling!!!! It’s amazing how kids like something one day and the day after they cant bare the sight of the food let alone the taste…. I’ve heard of taste buds changing but my god, kids take it to the next level!!

As for their school bags ? don’t even go there!!! I cant recall the last time their bags had been packed the night before, my kids don’t do school organisation no matter how much they are told!!! They are fab at emptying them out though after school. I still do the 9 year olds bag and find his coat on a morning, as it is so much quicker then him doing it. He takes that long to put his shoes and socks on that the school bag would be pushing it and probably wouldn’t even make it to the car.

All school bags get put at the front door with usually their coats, yet we can walk past coats and not realise until we get to school. But don’t worry…..good old mum will go back and get it as its usually the youngest ones coat, if it’s one of the eldest kids ok the middle son as the eldest always walks out with his on then it nasty mum and they freeze!!! He don’t wear the coat, it usually stored in his bag. It’s not just coats that get left behind, pencil cases are a good one as well! Thank scooby I have more then one child in the car and they sometimes like each other enough to share their pens.

School runs are hard work…. Getting the kids up and out the door is enough to exhaust you before the day has really started. I no longer leave the house organised, well unless I’m going for a run giving me spare time to at least hoover. I love my kids dearly and they are good kids… I just wish they would move just that little quicker on a morning, paying more attention to the bloody time. I’m sure it’s a boy thing as the daughter…..sixth former/part time student is bloody ace at getting up in the morning. She gets up, gets ready, does herself food and lunch if needed and manages to find a gap in the bathroom in between the boys fighting for it. She usually reminds me of the time and even de ices the car if Jack Frost has been..

School runs are hard work…. Sometimes I wish I could just keep them home!!!! Shouldn’t moan though as the school run is not forever…..
