Cancer… Cervical Cancer

Cancer is a disease, Cancer is something that can take control of your body, Cancer plays tricks with your mind at the same time as screwing it up, Cancer………….. Cancer……. Cancer……… For years, too so many people Cancer meant death and it almost feels like you have a huge and very dark cloud hanging over you!!!! L And please believe me when I say it can happen to anyone no matter his or her age, as my family was unfortunate to experience in the summer of 2017.

There are so many different cancers, my hubby has been diagnosed with bowel cancer, then there is breast cancer, cervical, lung, prostate and the list goes on, almost endless in away.

This week 22nd– 28th January 2018 is Cervical Cancer prevention week! A week of making awareness of a disease that can kill females but can be prevented if a simple test is done, a smear test, a test that takes a few minutes.

A smear test can be the most undignified thing, laying there naked from tummy down and exposed, having the inside of your fanny poked with a cold speculum!! It seems like the longest few minutes of your life!!!! It prod is, Laying there feeling everything as every feeling and touch is over exaggerated in your head. Wishing the nurse would hurry up and dreading the uncomfortable feeling as you walk for a short time afterwards. Then having to wait a few weeks for the results, a few long weeks… However those few weeks waiting from spending a few uncomfortable undignified minutes laying with your lower body on show could save your life.

Every 3 years if you are one of the lucky ones you will receive a letter saying you are due your smear test, however due to it being such an undignified test, ladies being maybe embarrassed of their body and ladies believing “it wont happen to me” Many ladies just bin the letter and don’t bother going and some go after several reminders. I am one of those many people who would have to have a few reminders before I had this undignified examination and I am also one of the lucky ones who have never had any problems with my results.

Around 9 years a go Jade Goody passed away after loosing her battle to cervical cancer, she was leaving two little boys to grow up without a mum. I remember watching and reading Jade Goody’s story and remember thinking how brave she was showing all what she was going through. After she passed the smear tests rate went up which is brilliant, however it would seem the past few years it would seem that the Jade Goody effect has wore of and figures for smear tests are falling again L

Last year a close family friend also lost her fight with cancer, she was so unfortunate she had more then one cancer one being ovarian. She had beaten it once and was unlucky to be one of those that it came back and hit hard. L This lady was the kindest and caring individual, she was that special to us she was at the birth to my daughter and always had a smile on her face. It was heart-breaking seeing pictures as she became ill and devastating when I heard the news that she had become an angel all to soon.

Cancer is such a crawl disease but it does not always have to be a huge black cloud and cause death. For the sake of a few minutes of your life have the smear test, I sure as Scooby doo wont be putting it off any more!!! Those few minutes could just save your life!!!!! Yes my hubby has bowel cancer but he swallowed his pride and went to the doctor J And along this journey with him, I’ve come across many individuals both females and males that are being treated for cancer as they had been caught early. My dear friend and Jade goody where not so lucky, so come on ladies and gents lets help spread the word!!! Go for that test, men push and support your partners, share this post and lets do our bit against cancer!!!!
