The last half term…

Half term…

This is the last half term before the end of the school year ?? this school year has flown by and my babies have given it 100% despite what they have been through.

This half term we have not done much which has been quite nice, and absolute bliss not waking up to the alarm. Sad to admit but the best part was probably being able to have a cuppa in peace while still in bed, this is something I have dreamed off for many years, like many mums I’m sure. As much as I miss having morning cuddles with my baby the peaceful cuppa first thing has been bliss.

This half term has been so chilled its hard to believe, the kids have even got on which is shocking. The only appointment was for the kids to have their hair done which they have done at home and I had the dentist, oh and hubby had his dressing changed and got discharged from the nurse.

So the week consisted of a few appointments, a short drive to test the hire car out which made us miss a massive down pour when we was meant to get a storm and for some strange reason, I decided I would spend the day cleaning my room which resulted in a lovely surprise, I have a floor ? and can currently walk around the bed with out tripping over things. We had to do the food shop which was not to bad actually as two of the kids stayed home, one bonus of them getting older is being able to leave them home while you go do the boring food shop. At the beginning of the week hubby had to go see his dad so much to the Kids amusement we all went, and like always they had a fab time as we stayed all afternoon and had a lovely bbq and I sat chilling in the sun with a lovely glass of wine, thanks father in law ?

Being a mum it’s the norm to be asked the question, ‘Did you enjoy the holidays’? and when I reply with ‘I have had a lovely and peaceful school holiday’ I get the most strangest looks. I mean how can I not enjoy the holidays? My 3 eldest children stay in bed till late morning and my youngest will come in and say morning, get his iPad and go snuggle up on the sofa. By the time he is up myself and his dad are usually awake and have been for some time enjoying a peaceful cuppa.

For years during the Kids holidays I would like many parents love the beginning and count down the rest of the holiday as the kids would be driving me up the wall constantly arguing with each other and becoming board after the first few days. So when I say to individuals I enjoy the kids holidays and wish they was longer I get strange looks as if I’m crazy. Don’t get me wrong I enjoyed the holidays when the kids where younger but I have more time to be able to enjoy them as the kids get older, I suppose I appreciate and value each day more as I see my kids growing in to mature young adults and realise they will not be by my side for ever. I just wish we could do more with them but I suppose that’s what cancer does to a family. It’s also hard for them as they dont live near their friends, so over the holidays if we don’t go out and the weather is crap they are usually doing their own thing, this usually means spending far to much time on gaming devices which is far from good, at least they not hanging around the streets and getting in to trouble.

This half term has been peaceful and restful in away, just wish I could sleep ?. My kids have got on with each other and amused themselves the eldest two have done loads of revising and we have been out a few times, but I sit back and feel guilty that we have not done enough with them. My children are at that age that they really don’t want to go out with their parents, they would much rather be sat in their rooms playing computers or out with their mates. It does not help that hubby is still recovering from his operation and still trying to adjust to how things are working on the inside. When taking a step back and really thinking about things though, even though we have not really done much this half term it has been nice and restful and Roger is on the mend, which is far more important then trying to keep up with others ands spoiling the kids over the holidays just as they want peace.

My kids are growing up way to quick, I moan at them as they don’t do enough around the house or even forget to do themselves lunch. They are at the age they don’t have to come with me every time I pop out and hanging out with parents is so not cool. So I suppose with this in mind It’s hard to get my head around the fact my four beautiful but at times highly frustrating children are growing up and its so important to make every moment count. The past year with their dad being so ill has made me look at things differently and value what we have. We tried so hard to keep things as normal as we could but this was not always possible and this half term being one of them and this hurts, but as much as it does hurt there is nothing I can do to change things but I can focus on the future.

My children the past year have had to grow up pretty quick and they have never moaned once, they have gone with out things and still not moaned. I could nor be more proud of them. So as much as your kids may drive you mad, don’t wish the holidays away as you never know what’s around the corner.
