I’m feeling old, i have a 16yr old daughter! (my baby girl). Who for sometime has had mixed emotions for thursday. Like many others on Thursday my baby girl will find out the title of the next chapter in her life. Thursday i take my baby girl to school to pick up an envelope containing her results for her GCSE’s.
I have like any other parent, all faith in my daughter that she has done the best she could in all her exams. Even with her social and self esteem challenges.
Times have changed from when i was in my daughters position, i finished year 11 and enjoyed my summer holidays knowing full well i was going into sixth form in the September to study Health and Social Care. However for my daughter and many others, you have to achieve so many GCSE’s C grade or above to be accepted. So with this in mind, she has had to apply for college as well. As a mum i can see how much added pressure this has put on Keeley. She had her last exam in June, and has gone through nearly the full summer, not having a clue what she will be doing in September.
She see’s her brothers getting ready to start back at school, with new school bags, pencil cases and uniform. All keeley can do is sort her bag. As if she goes to sixth form she will need uniform, but if she goes to college she won’t. She has found this hard, as my baby girl enjoys organising her back to school items. She enjoys talking to her friend about her new bits for the new school year. This year, its all been different for her, well till the end of this week anyway. It must be hard for them, trying to get their heads round the fact they have left school and are turning into mini adults, which brings more responsibility.
The summer has gone by fast, and as much as i feel my daughter has enjoyed it. I feel that this is going to be a slow week for her, and Thursday can not come quick enough.
Keeley’s school classes anything from a C grade and above is a pass. I believe this is wrong, and puts to much pressure on the children. I will always be proud of my children no matter what their grade maybe. As long as they have tried their best, what more can you ask for.
